What is heARTcore

Our mission is to enrich the lives of area youth by providing hands-on art and music opportunities.

CREATE | PROMOTE | CELEBRATE

Funds are raised by hosting live music / art events throughout the year in the warehouse space of Sound of Music,1710 Altamont Ave. RVA

Proceeds from these shows fuel art and music programs for youth and provide classroom supplies for local schools.

Who is heARTcore

The core of heARTcore was founded by artists and educators who came together with a mutual love for music, art and kids. With everyone's passion for keeping that alive in the future, the vision of heARTcore was formed.

heARTcore's programs include music recording workshops, mural projects, graphic designing opportunities, lyric writing workshops and jam sessions. If you are a student or a teacher that is interested in learning more about the programs that we offer or any of our upcoming events please email us at heartcorerva@gmail.com

Who else is heARTcore? YOU ARE! We are indeed a non profit organization, which means we could use some helping hands for events, out reach and programs. Please contact us if you are interested in being part of the heARTcore team!

Wallace grew up on the basketball courts of Richmond, Virginia.  He left the area for college and to earn a master’s degree in counseling but returned to RVA to  play more basketball, raise 2 children, play guitar, and work in Chesterfield county schools for 62 semesters.  Along the way he wrote 2 children’s books, and hundreds of songs and lyrics. It’s been 34 years since he formed his first band The Silent Boys and he is still recording and playing live with his bands: The Silent Boys, The Shattered Hopes, Steam Train Hearts, and Unknown Pleasures.  Wallace has retired from his gig with the public schools but is working harder than ever as a partner at Sound of Music Studios, booking bands, balancing the books, keeping tenants happy, and hearing a whole lotta cool live music. As a board member of HeARTcore, Wallace has much to offer.

Carlie pursued her dream of teaching by earning a master’s degree in special education. She served in the public schools for 17 years as both an exceptional education and homebased teacher. Currently, she and her husband are partners at Sound of Music Studios. While her formal background is not art, she has always nourished her passion for creativity…. running art camps for family and friends, developing the All Star Art Project (ASAP) in her child’s high school exceptional needs classroom, restoring a 1907 home, hosting backyard art auctions raising money for classrooms and non-profits as well as cultivating her own art.  Carlie helped found a local non-profit serving young adults with autism and served as its art director and as a board member for 7 years. Just as she retired from that board, she was approached to participate in HeARTcore, marrying music, visual art and area youth. It was a no-brainer. She answered, “Yes…let’s get started!”
